The Spotter app
- Spotter reads only the folders you choose, plus your Photos library if you turn that on.
- Everything it extracts — file details, text, text recognized in images, photo locations — is stored on your Mac in an index encrypted with AES‑256. The key is kept in your Keychain.
- Spotter does not upload your files or their contents. Search, text recognition and place names all work offline.
- Spotter only changes files when you ask, shows a preview first and keeps an undo history.
- You can remove a folder from Spotter, or delete everything it stored, at any time in Settings. Your files are not affected.
